I believe most of us got tested at Brands but what figures are within regs? Does anyone know?

What figures are "good" and "bad"?

Hi Andrei,

Feedback from the scrutineers was that all car were well within the limits specified in the workshop manual, and that there only seemed to be a spread of around 10 psi between all of the engines tested.

I need to dig out the document I gave the scrutineers and will post the limits here - they will explicitly form part of our regulations for next year.

Thanks!

Am I right thinking that the higher the figure the more power the engine would have?

Hi Patrick

Have you had a chance to find these figures?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of the document that I gave to the scrutineers. I'll get my engine builder to sort out the specs again when he's got the time, and failing that I'll be able to get hold of the original from the scrutineers at Cadwell.

Just flicking through the workshop manual. The 3S-GE compression pressures are:

12.5kg/cm2, 178 psi, 1,226kPa or more

Minimum pressures are:

10.0 kg/cm2, 142 psi, 981 kPa

Now, before anyone who can remember what they were tested at goes out and buys a new engine - these figures are taken with all the plugs out. We did ours with only one out - that might have made the difference.

After John's post (which I can't find) on filter change, I took mine out to see if I could find any HP hiding in there. Couldn't see any - just half of druids gravel trap a couple of bales of hay and about 3 litres of oily sludge.

In a very scientific experiment to see if there was any flow difference pre an post cleaning, placed mouth over throttle body end and sucked in it's dirty condition, and then with that rather unpleasent memory in my head, tried again just after the 'petrol bath'. All I can say is that I won't be trying that again in a hurry!!!! Wow man - gasoline buzz!!!!

Well it's clean now. We'll see.
