Snetterton Sept Race 1 - Onboard with LuckyP

Postby LuckyP on Sat Sep 26, 2009 11:06 am

Race 1. Gave Matt a little punt into the Esses (sorry mate), which flat spotted my tyres and gave me the mutha of all vibes for the rest of the race.

Thought I was gonna lose a tyre or a wheel, but carried on regardless.

Enjoy:

Funny how a fairly small thing can make such a differance to wheel ballance. Brands was a wierd event , lots of people seemed to get stone chips to the windscreen (both father and i included)and I know at least one person pulled off 'cos he had a vibration and thought he had a lose wheel or something, and I got a massive vibe' from nowhere that slowly went as the race went by (and has never been seen again. Rubber lumps on the wheel/tyre?).
So hard to know what to do, pull off in case you cause a massive accedent, or press on and hope for the best?

Hmm... It looks like a couple of people decided to make an earlier start?? I remember seeing it on some of the videos from the other races too. It must be within the regs -- I'll go and have a look ;)

Bloody right! This is definately a problem all through the field and could do with looking at. I'm sat there with the bloody handbrake on , while some joker trundles off up the road !! You don't move till the lights go out . . its pretty basic.
Hold the button of the handbreak down but the handbreak on, 5000rpm, drop it at the same time as you dump the clutch, BOSH! you're away. No chance of rolling (backwards if you're at Brands). If your handbreak sticks you should sort it out. I actually think this is much the quickest way to start anyway. If you drag the handbreak a tiny bit it cuts wheelspin down. Do some hillclimbing, you can't move on the starts at all.
A car in front of me at snet' nearly went into the back of the car in front before the lights went out. He hit the breaks just as they did . . . har har  But he was really rolling!!

I'll ask the C of C at Mallory to keep an eye on it. There was car in front of me in race two that rolled about a complete car's length before the red lights went out.

Interestingly as Ben pointed out I often find that those people who do creep off the line generally get a worse start because of it.
