Towing Eye Regulations

Postby Rogue on Fri Feb 20, 2009 8:51 pm

Guys,

MSA regulations for towing eyes have changed and contrary to previous advice, it does affect our cars. We must now run towing eyes of a minimum 60mm diameter. The following should be suitable and are relatively cheap:

Is that 1 on the front and 1 on the rear? Or two at the front and two at the rear to replace the standard ones?

Bill Gregory from Stock Hatches has put together some cost effective tow loops that he's selling for £20 a pair including delivery. Please see here for more details:

Just a FYI really so you can investigate whatever you have fitted to your cars in case you suffer the same. Don't think I was the only one to suffer this but unfortunately I needed to be towed twice on Saturday (once out of the gravel at Paddock Hill and then at the end of Heat 2 due to the clutch having gone) and BOTH canvas towing eyes snapped. I put the first one at Paddock Hill bend down to the extra stress of being that deep in gravel but the front one snapped just moving off. I was using the Schroth adjustable canvas towing eyes but not anymore! I have some more substantial items I can use which if I can afford to fix my car I will use at Silverstone in August.
