Mk3 Engine Replacement

Mk3 Engine Replacement

Postby EDM on Thu Feb 12, 2009 11:21 am

Yet again I'm venturing into the unknown with another new toy...
Can anyone advise on what engine I should look for as a replacement for my Mk3, ie, year, best donor etc, as I've heard the early engine's are s***e (rubbish) and prone to self destruction?

(Or are they ALL as bad as each other?)

Thanks

Hi Elliot,

Toyota seemed to sort the problem out at the end of 2002, so any 2003+ engine should be free from problems (From what I gather they redesigned the pistons / rings). All 1ZZFE's are essentially the same, so there shouldn't be a problem using one from an Avensis or Celica.

They're being powdercoated at the moment and should be with us early next week.

Patric,

How much are the Mk3 cages?

What configuration are they? Double door bar, dash bar, etc or are they the same as the Mk2?

They're a similar layout to the mk2 cages, but have a harness bar behind the driver and a diagonal in the roof. It's a bit different around the dashboard as well but that will be easier to explain with pictures when I have them! The mk3 is not a car that accepts a roll cage easily!
