Catalytic Converters - 2009

Technical issues relating to mk3 MR2 Championship Race cars

Catalytic Converters - 2009

Postby Rowland on Tue Dec 30, 2008 9:47 am

Another Patrick question/query!

I'm hearing whispers that there's been a change in the 2009 blue book.
2009 MSA regs require post 2000 production based race cars to run with a cat.

That means all mk3's (although a few will sneak in if registered in 1999) will have to retain their heavy ol' catalytic converter.
I can only imagine this to be a move by the MSA to show that Motor Sport can be made more 'green'

:(

Hi Rowland,

Our Championship regulations require all mk3 MR2s to have catalytic converters fitted regardless of year, but the pre-cats may be removed from the exhaust manifold. Other classes are not affected.

IIRC the Blue Book says that a catalytic converter must be fitted. it doesn't say where...
