Mk2 Weight

Postby LuckyP on Wed Mar 11, 2009 2:20 pm

Just dropped the car on the corner weight equipment here at the Toyota Technical Centre:

just over a half tank of fuel:

LF: 240.5 RF: 224.5 LR: 304.5 RR: 342.0 Total 1111.5kg

and with bloater LuckyP aboard:

LF:253.5 RF: 258.0 LR: 313.0 RR: 378.5 Total 1203.0kg

That'll do won't it?

NO matey be carefull if you have half a tank of fuel in,it really wants to be 1203 kg when empty of fuel then its not a worry how much fuel you have left in at the end of a race

REMEMBER they weigh you at the end of the race not before you start

I see what you mean. I was thinking that if I use the half tank as a base line I can add fuel to make the distance and never worry about running out!

The tank is central and low, right?

What do all your cars weigh?

When I weighed my car at PowerNights it was 1251KG with me and a splash of fuel. I've taken a few bits off the car now and best guess is that figure would now be about 1225ishKG. Far from as light as many out there.

Blimey, Lucky! That's one hell of a light car!

Not sure how many litres is half a tank but even if it's only 20-25 litres = kg that's like 1180 kg dry weight with you in it!

What have you taken out to achieve this???

But as Mark said the downside is that you now need to worry about making the min weight. Sorry.... In the MX5 series the light guys used to fit the passenger seat for the race to add the weight.

Normally you wouldn't want to fill the car full of fuel 'cause you might be spilling fuel all over the track...

Point about the fuel. Although being selfish I'd be more woried about the size of the fireball I'd have to escape from!!

Patrick is to blame. He challenged me to pick up the bin of parts he had removed.......I failed!!

Spose the carbon roll cage helps?

good going on the weight reduction.

FYI, My car weighs 1215kg with me in and a little bit of fuel.
I weigh about 75kg so 1140kg empty!

My car was a moon roof conversion and is Rev4 so has a heavy ABS system apparently.

We got my old mk2 down to below 1050kgs - I had to run with 70+kgs of ballast last year. I can't remember the exact weight but I've got it written down somewhere. There was more weight that could have been removed, but a left at the front for better weight distribution.

The base car didn't have ABS or PAS though.

Gonna make some sort of ballast holder. Where do you think the best place is for it to go? Behind the front seat cross member, as close to tunnel a possible?

Hey pete i,ve got alot of ballest in my car, patrick sorted it.
mine is on the passenger side with alot of plates . my weight at brands with a bit of fuel 8) was 1206kg thats with the heavest wheels going .
What would be great would to reduce it 1100kg think it would handle perfect on the back. If we could change those rules :?

Some of us carry a little more subcutanious ballast than you do Lee. :)

Paring weight in those areas might need sharper implements than a ring spanner and a 3lb persuader!!!
