Mk1 Driver intro

Technical issues relating to mk1 MR2 Championship Race cars

Postby nick_r on Tue Jan 20, 2009 10:03 am

Having heard from most of last years drivers, some ex 'series' drivers that are moving to the Championship this year and some brand new drivers it looks like 2009 is shaping up to be full of MK1s :D :D :D

It's a good job we have seperate grids for the MK2's this year, we would have run out of space for them

Were do you plan to take your ARDS ?

I did mine at 3 Sisters in Feb 08.
Though it's a narrow Kart/Sprint track it's easy to drive.
When I did mine they had Ferrari experience cars out doing 30mph, not a problem but a bonus as they had turn & apex cones out.. :P
We were in Mini Cooper S's, found them a bit skitish.
Reading another forum, some tracks set a time for you to beat, 3 Sisters didn't do this, just wanted reasonable progress, smooth and good track positioning.

regards
Gareth

I took mine at Rocking ham, but I don't think they do it any more. The only circuit where I have heard of people failing is Silverstone - Rockingham guaranteed a pass offering to coach people up to the required level on the day at no extra charge.

I've also heard glowing reports from Mallory and that's a really easy circuit to drive!

Silverstone = Nightmare. They take pride in failing around 50% of all those who take it and then sell 'personal tuition'.

Castle Coombe - brilliant set of guys, lovely chaps and talk incessantly. :) But they actually want to pass you!

I took mine at Mallory Park the instructor told me that the only way you would fail would be if you went the wrong way round! Really nice chap and it was cheap ( my aunty lives in the house just at the back of the hairpin so she gets a discount)

Hi all.
I took mine last January at Silverstone ..and although we all (9 of us)passed the written (multiple choice exam) exam (Q- "what do you do if you notice your car is on fire " ...A1 - "drive to the the nearest petrol station ?" ) 4 failed the exige driven assessment  on the south circuit ....they were pretty strict on speed and lines and looking 'through' the corner.....
Good luck , whichever circuit you choose ...

have fun

I haven't done mine, yet but Mallory sounds good. I think i've got it memorised - Start, right, right, left, right, left, finish!

Even i cant get that wrong!

No its a company called Everyman that takes the ARDS at Mallory Park. If you phone Mallory Park they will give you the number, I think I paid £250 for mine last July.
If you need a hand let me know, I live 10mins down the road.
