Invitation to Mk1 Racing Series Drivers

Postby Rogue on Wed Jan 07, 2009 12:55 pm

Hi All,

I wanted to take this opportunity to extend an invitation to those drivers who have previously raced in the Mk1 Racing Series to join us in the MR2 Championship in 2009.

Some great reasons to join:

- Standalone Races! The 2009 MR2 Championship calender has provision for the mk1 and mk2 classes to race separately. The new mk3 class will initially race with the mk2s, but may join the mk1 races later in the season if the mk2 races become oversubscribed. If this happens then we can discuss starting the mk3 cars from the back of the grid.

- We're offering to rebrand your existing Toyo R888 race tyres. The Mk1 Racing Series is switching to Silverstone tyres in 2009, which they're claiming may be up to a second a lap faster. That means that if you want to be competitive then you have to switch tyres. The MR2 Championship is remaining on the R888 tyres which we've found to be both excellent performance and superb value. Newcomers to the MR2 Championship will be able to have all of their existing R888 tyres rebranded at the first race meeting of the year to enable them to be used throughout the season.

- Backup from one of the biggest and longest established racing clubs in the UK. In 2008, some Mk1 Racing Series grids were combined with MX5 races due to lack of numbers. This year, the MX5s are racing elsewhere leaving only the Nippon Challenge races to fall back on... We guarantee that you'll only ever race with other MR2s, where speed differentials are minimal and safe.

- Prices frozen at 2008 rates! Registration fees remain at the low price of £75, with single header entries at £195 and double headers at £210 (Brands Hatch £295).

- Championship Points! Make your racing mean something and compete against those around you for the entire season rather than just one race. Race results and championship tables are updated quickly and available from the MR2 Championship page on the 750MC website.

There are many more reasons to join us in 2009, whether you do just one series or both. We're committed to the mk1 MR2 just as much as we are the mk2 and mk3, hence why we've separated the races out this year. We'd love to bring everybody back together again in one series!

Please feel free to email, PM or call me to discuss. We'll also be on stand 7250 at Autosport International from the 8th - 11th January if you want to stop by for a chat.

Best regards,

Interestingly I think the MK3s will be similar to the MK1s in terms of power/weight - but I suspect their handling is sharper and they will win over with that LSD on the UK version though!

Still could be an interesting match. 8)
