MR2 Championship

FIA type master switch! Ive got one and just want to know how to wire it in. I know where my battery cable is going, its in but the four connectors on the back are confusing me

A wire to the coil or something? A resistor that came with it? Altinator.... And a main electrical feed????

Anyone know which wires to cut and use?

And how do you put a starter button in? Ignition 1 ive been told!

The two main connection points for the power are pretty self explanatory, but you MUST make a note of which cable leads directly to the battery, and which one connects to the rest of the loom. This will be important later on.

The other four connections correspond to a normally open and a normally closed circuit. The circuit that is closed when the switch is in the "On" position is for the vehicle's ignition circuit. You will need to locate this in the loom, cut it and connect each end of the wire to one of the two connectors. Now when the switch is rotated to the "Off" position the ignition circuit is broken and the engine switches off - just the same as turning the ignition key.

The circuit that is open when the switch is set to "On" is used for the ballast resistor. One of the terminals should be connected to one of the points on the resistor and the other point on the resistor to a suitable ground. The remaining terminal needs to be linked to the thick power cable that supplies the rest of the car - NOT THE CABLE TO THE BATTERY. This protects the vehicle from any power surge when the power is cut. (If you get this the wrong way round rotating the switch to the "Off" position will connect the battery live to ground resulting in at least smoke, if not fire or explosion. You have been warned!)

So i need to split the main battery red wire with the switch, which i have done, Find the ignition wire and split that with the switch???

Put the resistor on and a link wire from the battery side to the other conectors?

Does this sound right?

What about the altenator stuff?

Looking at menaces picture I split the ignition wire across the top two terminals, now I have a push button starter button on the dash, do i take the wires from th mr2 loom to the switch but separate one wire to go to the master switch?

I told you i hate wiring!


I also have a link wire from the main battery lead Going to the rest of the car to a connection closest to that lead? And the resistor on the remaining one?

Yeah its all done, soldered and heat shrinked, thanks to Jamey from J Firth racing!

Its nearly there now, I even put that resistor thing on!

I just need to put shock, springs and braided hoses on then its ready!
