Front strut brace

Postby Matt.M on Sun Jan 11, 2009 11:40 pm

Patrick , another formula official question ..this time on chassis stiffening regs and the use of a front strut brace :

Mine seems to have disappeared in the front bay  , although I have the X brace in the engine bay.
Within the regs 5,5 ....it seems to allow a front strut brace (even after market ?), but only a rear brace if originally fitted as OEM.
Pls would you clarify : within the regs, can I fit an aftermarket front strut brace ?

have fun

Hi Matt,

5.5: CHASSIS:
No chassis stiffening is permitted except that derived from the
fitting of the roll cage using only the mounting feet inside the car
and a strut brace in the front bay; no other attachment to the
bodyshell is permitted even if provided by the cage manufacturer.
Seam-welding of the shell is prohibited; unless factory-fitted, a rear
strut brace is prohibited. Towing eyes must be fitted front &
rear and must have a minimum internal diameter of 60mm;
(note the tow eye may be of either a suitable rigid or
flexible material bolted to the chassis).

Good spot. The intention of the regulations is to limit the cars only to the factory fitted strut braces front and rear. I'll see about clearing this up.

Matt,
I have printed you 2 stickers for you with "THIS IS THE STRUT BRACE" printed on them so you can put one on each side incase you lose it again.
